The Coloma/Lotus Valley offers a number of amazing opportunities to those looking for excitement, exploration, or relaxation.
River Rafting/Kayaking
The South Fork American River is one of the most popular rafting and kayaking rivers in the world. Multiple sections allow guests to paddle Class I up to Class IV. The local links page has a number of raft companies that offer trips ranging from half-day to overnight adventures. Camp Lotus, being the popular put-in and take-out for multiple sections provides a perfect place to base your adventure from.
Hiking, Biking and Horse Trails
There are numerous biking, hiking and equestrian trails in the Coloma-Lotus Valley. Camp Lotus has a short trail on-site, and many additional trails are within a few miles of the campground. Popular trails include the Monroe Trail (see below) Dave Moore Nature Trail, Greenwood Creek, Cronan Ranch and Magnolia trail network. Additionally, there are endless trails within an hour radius in the Auburn State Recreation Area, American River Parkway and the El Dorado National Forest.
Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park
Camp Lotus sits only a mile from the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. The Park offers numerous trails including the Monroe Ridge trail, multiple exhibits, a museum and nature center. This is the site of California’s gold discovery and a good place to learn about local history. A great place to spend the afternoon exploring, perfect for families with young kids.
Local Wineries, Breweries and Farms
El Dorado County is home to many great wineries, breweries and farm stands offering many fresh fruits and veggies throughout the summer. Visit El Dorado has created a wine trail, ale trail and farm trail map making it easy to find and navigate amongst the best places to taste the local flavor.
